A Gallery Tour of Block Prints
A/P means Artist's Proof. This is a working image made from the plate while the artist is still making changes to the final image, which is then used to print an edition. Prints in the edition are numbered 1/1, 1/2 1/3 ...consecutively up to the limit the artist has set for herself. There are as many as 10 per cent of an edition that can be proofs, therefore an edition of 30 may have three artist's proofs.
These are all original prints, which means that I physically created them from start to finish. Some artists
work with a master printer to produce an image, which is also considered original, as the artist is there to examine and proof every print. Artist's original editions may run into the low hundreds. Commercial editions can run into the thousands. The size is the dimension of the actual printed piece. The white borders are
from 3 to 5 inches.

Linoleum Block Print: a type of relief print. The surface is coated with ink and contacts the printing paper when run through the press. In block prints, the surface is carved so the recessed areas do not carry ink onto the paper. Other carved relief print methods include wood block, metal and wood engraving.
